Weyshare is a "library of things" based at The Circular Shop in Lennox Street.
A library of things is like an ordinary library but with tools and appliances instead of books. People get in touch with WeyShare with donations of tools and appliances they no longer use, we give them some TLC, then we lend them to other people for a fraction of what they would cost to buy. Because we're a non-profit organisation the hire costs are much lower than those at commercial tool hire businesses.
Borrowing for a week for a small fee saves you money and helps the environment by stopping things going to landfill, which is bad for the planet and wastes the energy and resources that went into making them in the first place. Re-using stuff that works also reduces the overall purchase/consumption of new stuff. So does it make sense? Of course it does. Read on...
When you click on the "Register" button you'll be asked to fill in a simple form with your name, address, phone and email. Once you've done that you'll receive an email with a link to activate your account and then you'll be able to reserve and borrow items.
If you don't have an email address please come in to see us and we can make other arrangements. And if you have any trouble registering, come into the shop and we can help.
When you've found an item you want to borrow you can reserve the item online and collect when the shop is open. Alternatively, just come down to the shop and we can do the online bit for you.
For some tools and appliances there are safety precautions to be taken. We will provide a manual/safety instructions but you might also need some Personal Protective Equipment (PPE - such as gloves, goggles etc) to use the item safely.
You can pay online when you reserve your item or you can pay in person at the shop with cash or card.
Some items require a returnable deposit on top of the hire fee.
